First Trailer for ‘The Big Year’ Falls Flat On Its Face—And Not In A Funny Way

First of all, it’s a comedy about BIRDWATCHING.  I know that anything can be funny if done the right way, especially boring sports such as birdwatching, but who would possibly think of a plotline exclusively dealing with the subject?  Obviously the studio is scared about the plot too, because the trailer barely even mentions it.  Instead, they exchange it for some really pathetic excuses for jokes that in no way, shape, or form work.  During this trailer, I didn’t laugh a single time.  In fact, I didn’t even smile.  And I’m like the freaking Gerber Baby; making me smile isn’t very hard.  These actors are better than this.  I award the trailer for The Big Year no points, and may god have mercy on its soul.

The trailer in question:

Official Plot Synopsis:

Steve Martin, Jack Black and Owen Wilson are at a crossroads — one is experiencing a mid-life crisis, another a late-life crisis, and the third, a far from ordinary no-life crisis. From David Frankel, the director of The Devil Wears Prada and Marley & Me, comes a sophisticated comedy about three friendly rivals who, tired of being ruled by obligations and responsibilities, dedicate a year of their lives to following their dreams. Their big year takes them on a cross-country journey of wild and life-changing adventures.

The Big Year opens October 14, 2011.
