I’ve read Divergent. I enjoyed it for the most part, but the ending left a lot to be desired and felt like it was born more out of a need to wrap things up than anything that flowed naturally. As such, I’ve held off on finishing up the trilogy, but have been interested in seeing what the film will bring to the table. The first teaser wasn’t that great. It seemed to want to highlight the most boring aspects of the book instead of the meatier parts. This brand new trailer steps things up a bit though:
I’m still not entirely sold. What worries me most is this looks to be a more direct adaptation and not taking any sort of risks that could make this film greatness. While I did enjoy the book and thought it had some unique elements to it, the fact is, the story isn’t anything all that special or too separate from what we’ve seen before. I fear the movie runs the risk of being generic. Perhaps I’m being too harsh, what do you guys think?
In a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities, Tris Prior is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.
