George Lucas Says the ‘Original Three’ Are Pretty Much Signed on for Star Wars

I’ve been very wary of posting any Star Wars news as of late.  Most times within a matter of hours (sometimes minutes) the news has been debunked or officially denied (as was the case with this latest Carrie Fisher nonsense).  Regardless, seeing as how this information came from the Star Wars creator himself, I figured it was safe to go ahead and post up for everyone.  I mean, while he’s not directly involved in the production anymore, do you really think he’s unaware of what’s going on with it?  Didn’t think so.

In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Lucas had this to say in regards to the original cast (Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher) making a comeback in Episode VII:

“We had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison—or we were pretty much in final stages of negotiation…So I called them to say, ‘Look, this is what’s going on.'” He pauses. “Maybe I’m not supposed to say that. I think they want to announce that with some big whoop-de-do, but we were negotiating with them.” Then he adds: “I won’t say whether the negotiations were successful or not.”

Couple things here.  First, it looks as though they were into making this film long before the Disney merger happened (interesting), and secondly, he probably shouldn’t have said anything.  More than likely Disney is awaiting the most opportune time to make a big announcement, so as to capitalize on the most hype as possible.  I just hope that we start hearing more official information sooner, rather than later.

So what do you think about what Lucas has said?
