Guillermo Del Toro Announces Release Date for Pacific Rim 2

In a special video released just a little bit ago, Guillermo Del Toro announced that Pacific Rim 2 (which he’ll direct from a script by himself and Zak Penn) is coming April 7, 2017.  So yeah, it’s still a ways off, but considering Toro is still working on Crimson Peak it makes sense.

To be honest…I’m not entirely sure how to feel. On one hand, I love large scale action films with giant monsters, but on the other hand I really didn’t care for Pacific Rim.  It could have been something good, but poor acting, lack of emotional attachment in any form, and a weak plot kept the film from reaching the heights we all wanted.

For me personally, it was pretty disappointing.  I enjoyed it for some of the dumb fun it presented, but even it’s spectacle can’t withstand more than a couple viewings.  Maybe a better script can make the sequel work better.  Some new actors would help too, but from the sound of it, the original members are expected to return.

What do you guys think about a Pacific Rim 2?  Are you looking forward to it?
