Hans Zimmer Says He’s Scoring Batman vs. Superman

I like Hans Zimmer…I like him a lot.  I think he does great work (though it may not be exactly subtle) and felt that Man of Steel benefited greatly from his work.  To be entirely honest, soundtracks on films have never been all that important to me.  Music hasn’t ever been my “thing” especially since I’m deaf in one ear, but Zimmer’s soundtracks always manage to catch my attention.

Many had been hoping he’d be returning to score Batman vs. Superman, and now in an interview with Digital Spy, the man himself says he’s been asked to return, and is likely to do so:

“We’ve already had a couple of chats, and once I finish the movie that I shall not talk about I will probably head over to where Zack is shooting his movie and just hang out a bit and see if we can come up with any ideas.”

On top of that, the man expresses some concerns he has about the project, specifically the fact that he’ll have to come up with an all new Batman theme, different from what he did in The Dark Knight trilogy:

“That’s my problem, that’s my dilemma. I don’t want to betray, if that’s the right word, the Dark Knight movies. That was Christian, it was Christian’s role. It’s not just that it was nine years of our lives, so you want to stay honest and honourable to that period. So it’s really about, ‘Is there something else I can find that I haven’t tapped into?’ Which I don’t know until I sit down with Zack.”

I could certainly see how something like this would be daunting, because so many people would be comparing any new Batman theme, to the previous one.  Either way, I think Zimmer would be up to the task, more than any other composer right now.  I’m looking forward to what he’s going to bring to the table with Zack Snyder’s latest film.

How do you guys feel about him returning for Batman vs. Superman?  Are you excited, or would you rather someone else take over?
