The first trailer and plot details have been released for an intriguing film entitled The Rhythm Section.
Based on the novel of the same name by Mark Burnell, The Rhythm Section follows a woman named Stephanie Patrick (Blake Lively), who is out for vengeance after her family dies in a plane crash that wasn’t actually an accident. The journey that follows looks dark and complicated, if somewhat familiar.
To be completely fair, The Rhythm Section looks like it has the potential to be a perfectly enjoyable film. The thing is, I’ve seen this premise before, quite recently actually. Remember a film from 2018 called Peppermint? Woman loses her family during an act of violence and goes rogue to get revenge? The specifics vary, but The Rhythm Section appears to be a near-identical premise. Hopefully the similarities won’t prevent the film from telling a good story, but of course only time will tell for sure.
Blake Lively stars as Stephanie Patrick, an ordinary woman on a path of self-destruction after her family is tragically killed in a plane crash. When Stephanie discovers that the crash was not an accident, she enters a dark, complex world to seek revenge on those responsible and find her own redemption
Starring Blake Lively, Jude Law, and Sterling K. Brown, The Rhythm Section will arrive in theaters on January 31, 2020.
