Hulk and Thor to ‘Buddy’ Up Against Evil in Thor: Ragnarok

It’s been a long time since the Big Guy has been in a Marvel Movie outside of the Avengers.  In fact, the last time he was in one, Edward Norton was Hulk’s alter ego.  However, that’s all about to change in Thor: Ragnarok as Mark Ruffalo has confirmed that this action packed thriller will be more of a Buddy movie.(?)

This is Mark Ruffalo’s comment to NYDN, “I think it’s going to be a buddy picture with Thor and Bruce Banner, I think they’ll probably fight. There’s no doubt, everyone wants us to fight at one point.”

The addition of Hulk in Ragnarok makes for a very interesting film, more so than just the title.  In fact, as much as they have teamed up, Thor and Hulk have always had this unspoken rivalry about who is the strongest.  We’ve seen it in the Avengers and in various comics.

Not only that, but Hulk being in Asgard is reminiscent of the Hulk vs Thor animated film that came out a few years ago.  A film which saw Loki take over Hulk’s mind and ultimately control him by separating Hulk from Banner, with help from the Enchantress.  Could this be the storyline they follow?

Well not even Ruffalo knows, as he said this about the movie, “I know that it’s about [the Norse legends of] ‘Ragnarok,’ or the end times in the Marvel universe as it pertains to Thor, which seems to be quite the theme these days in movies,”

With it still being early in the pre-production process this isn’t really surprising.  In fact, they just hired their director Taiki Waititi not that long ago.

Hulk and Thor could make for a great Buddy Movie but don’t believe for a second that it’ll go smoothly between two of the most powerful characters in the Marvel Universe.  It does make for some entertaining movie going, though!

Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters November 3rd, 2017.
