Idris Elba In Talks to Play Roland Deschain in The Dark Tower

When the news came out that Matthew McConaughey could be playing villain, The Man in Black, in the movie adaptation to Stephen King’s thrilling series The Dark Tower, Editor-in-Chief Jordan and I were pretty pumped for the idea.  Now, with reports coming from Deadline that Idris Elba is the frontrunner to play Roland Deschain, our gunslinging hero, saying that we were jumping up and down like school girls is an understatement.

Nevertheless, that is the world we live in as Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey are in talks to join The Dark Tower.

This role could be the big break that Elba has been looking for after many incredible roles in Pacific Rim, Prometheus, and even the critically-acclaimed BBC show, Luther, this could be just the role to catapult Elba to the next level.

Furthermore, if they do everything they’d like to do, we could be seeing Elba and McConaughey a lot more as they’d like to create a movie franchise and tv series out of King’s novel franchise.

Once again, nothing is confirmed, no ink is on paper, yet.  However, the prospect alone has us excited for what is to come.

The Dark Tower series tells the story of Roland Deschain, Mid-World’s last gunslinger, who is traveling southeast across Mid-World’s post-apocalyptic landscape, searching for the powerful but elusive magical edifice known as The Dark Tower. Located in the fey region of End-World, amid a sea of singing red roses, the Dark Tower is the nexus point of the time-space continuum.  It is the heart of all worlds, but it is also under threat. Someone, or something, is using the evil technology of the Great Old Ones to destroy it.

The Dark Tower has a release date of January 13, 2017.
