Idris Elba Vying for a Role in Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Pacific Rim’, But What of His Involvement in ‘Django Unchained?’

TheWrap got the exclusive report on the dealings, claiming that Idris Elba is auditioning for a part in Guillermo del Toro’s next picture.  If you remember correctly (or if you don’t, check back here), a rumor was running rampant a while back about Elba being involved in Quentin Tarantino’s next picture, the slave “Souther” Django Unlimited. But with this report from TheWrap running so recently, one must wonder; which film is the tweet about?  Or was Elba’s tweet talking about any of the two films at all?

Pacific Rim

First off, I think we can rule out that last theory.  Idris was referring to one of these movies in his mystery tweet, no doubt about that.  But which one?  Well, that’s all up in the air.  For those who need a reminder (and were to lazy to click the link above), here are the two tweets again:

“Having one of the biggest meetings of my professional life today…meeting a very controversial director for a very controversial part. :-/”

“On the plane to the destination of my fate…..ok…. a lil dramatic….destination of my life..?”

So honestly, who knows what project Idris was talking about.  Heck, who knows if Idris is even involved in Django Unchained or not!  At this point, only one things for sure; Idris Elba is auditioning for a part in Pacific Rim.

Pacific Rim

And at thie point, I’m fine with only knowing that.  After the Hobbit/Mountains of Madness fiasco, it’s good to know that Guillermo del Toro is going full steam into his project.  I mean, we haven’t seen a Guillermo del Toro movie since Hellboy II. And for a man with about 1,000 projects, it seems weird that its taken so long for this one to get going.  Nonetheless, I’m excited.  For the love of god, the film is about a group of soldiers in robotic mechs fighting huge aliens!  HOW BADASS IS THAT?!

Pacific Rim is aiming for a 2013 release.
