I’ve always been a fan of Thomas Jane’s Punisher film. While the story itself had some issues, I thought Jane’s portrayal of the character was spot on and deserving of attention. I couldn’t stand the second film, nor the recast, and fortunately I’m not the only one who thought that way either. Thomas Jane has had a fairly dedicated following of fans for his Punisher role, and Jane himself is very passionate about the character.
So passionate in fact, that he created his own fan film and shared it the SDCC attendees, which I think is pretty bad ass. I mean, it’s one thing to have a fan film for a beloved property, but it’s entirely different when the actual actor gets in there and does it. I’m not going to lie, it was very neat seeing him in that role again. Here’s what Jane had to say about making it:
“I wanted to make a fan film for a character I’ve always loved and believed in – a love letter to Frank Castle & his fans. It was an incredible experience with everyone on the project throwing in their time just for the fun of it. It’s been a blast to be a part of from start to finish — we hope the friends of Frank enjoy watching it as much as we did making it.”
It’s obvious at some points that it’s a fan film, but on the whole, I think it’s a pretty damn good. While Jane was quick to emphasize that the short film was made just for fun with no ulterior motives, I’d be down for seeing him come back to this role in a film or even TV series. What did you guys think of it?
