Today brings about our first look at Guillermo del Toro’s latest, which sees him return to the creature feature, but with a decided twist. It’s not set up to be a horror movie, but more of a fantastical love story…
I’m really digging this trailer and the Creature From the Black Lagoon vibes it’s giving off. While there are some horror elements, to be sure, the fantasy part is really hooking me in there. Throw in some Cold War aesthetics with a great cast, and I’m officially hooked. Definitely eager to see more of this one.
From master story teller, Guillermo del Toro, comes THE SHAPE OF WATER – an other-worldly fairy tale, set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1963. In the hidden high-security government laboratory where she works, lonely Elisa (Sally Hawkins) is trapped in a life of silence and isolation. Elisa’s life is changed forever when she and co-worker Zelda (Octavia Spencer) discover a secret classified experiment. Rounding out the cast are Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Michael Stuhlbarg and Doug Jones.
The Shape of Water hits theaters on December 8, 2017.
