I guess today is just a good day for movie trailers! With the Summer season quickly approaching, it makes sense that studios are stepping up the marketing:
Frankly, I wasn’t that thrilled with the first trailer for Legend of Tarzan. Tonally, it felt all over the place, and I couldn’t get a good sense for the specific story they’re trying to tell this time. Sadly, today’s trailer feels much the same, though the action is significantly stepped up. The tone is consistent, and it looks like it could be a good popcorn flick, but I’d like to actually care about the characters as well.
The CGI is still all over the place, but these days, that’s not uncommon. They work on the visuals up until a couple weeks before release, so there’s plenty of time to polish them up (though I know some are already complaining about it). In all, I have to say, I’m still not seeing a lot of reason to get excited about it. I hope the final product blows me away, but the traielrs so far aren’t doing it for me. What about you guys?
It has been years since the man once known as Tarzan (Skarsgård) left the jungles of Africa behind for a gentrified life as John Clayton III, Lord Greystoke, with his beloved wife, Jane (Robbie) at his side. Now, he has been invited back to the Congo to serve as a trade emissary of Parliament, unaware that he is a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the Belgian, Captain Leon Rom (Waltz). But those behind the murderous plot have no idea what they are about to unleash.
The Legend of Tarzan hits theaters on July 1, 2016.
