After rumors floating around for months, it has been declared in a written deal that Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles, Darkness Falls) will be directing the sequel according to Heat Vision.
For the past three months, there have been negative stigmas in response to the first film and funding problems to prevent the signing from occurring. The remake of the 1981 original earned Warner Bros. more than $491 million across the globe. Against all odds, the studios are intending to correct the misdeeds of creating 3D postproduction by shooting in 3D beforehand. Sounds like a marvelous idea!
Stars from the first film, Sam Worthington and Gemma Arterton, are believed to come back to the big screen for this sequel. Involved in this project are Greg Berlanti (Green Lantern writer), Dan Mazeau (The Flash, Jonny Quest) and David Johnson (Red Riding Hood writer). Mazeau and Johnson will be penning the script for this installment.
I could understand why Liebesman is taking on this project considering the figures that were brought in even against all the disapproval. Question still remains how receptive will audiences be to the upcoming film as they were to the remake? After watching the original movie, I was sorely disappointed in the vision intended for the redo. Now, it is just adding insult to injury by taking it a step further. Looks like Liebesman has an angle to build up his directing repertoire by taking on such a colossal project. Desperation? No idea. Poor move in any avenue. How much more do they intend to butcher the Greek legends?
