Jason Momoa will pop up on the big screen (though supposedly only briefly) as Aquaman next year in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, but he’s getting his own solo flick on July 27, 2018. As post-production continues on Dawn of Justice and production starts on Suicide Squad, WB is already planning ahead for the future of their shared universe. Yesterday we learned that Phile Lord and Chris Miller were working on the story for The Flash and according to THR it looks like James Wan is being courted for the directors’ spot on Aquaman:
The director, hot off the smash opening of his Furious 7 ($392 million worldwide, but who’s counting?), is the frontrunner to direct Aquaman, Warner Bros.’ water-borne superhero movie centering on the classic DC Entertainment character, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.
Wan has no offer at this stage but he is the studio’s choice and some preliminary talks have taken place.
With the release still a few years out, a lot can obviously change. James Wan may decide to go a different direction, or even take on Fast and Furious 8 instead. The point is, Warner Bros. is taking aim at the top people to handle their comic book franchises, and there’s nothing wrong with that. What do you guys think, are you hoping James Wan takes the helm?
