He’s played Conan the Barbarian and had a part in the popular Game of Thrones TV series as Khal Drogo. Now Jason Momoa will be playing a well-known DC super hero. Momoa has gotten the role of Aquaman in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Clearly, the Batman vs. Superman film has moved far from its original embryonic form as a sequel to Man of Steel and is now a Pre-Justice League film, setting the stage for the actual, much-anticipated Justice League movie in 2017. Due out in 2016, Batman vs. Superman will feature Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Lex Luthor and now Aquaman as well. We can assume that Momoa will reprise the Aquaman role in Justice League.
Aquaman has become sort of a joke among people who aren’t too familiar with the character. Ever since the Super Friends cartoon came out in the 1970s, and Aquaman was reduced to a guy who could only swim and talk to fish, he’s been looked down at as a third-rate hero with little to contribute unless you need help from a whale. He’s actually much cooler than that in the comics and let’s hope that the new version in Zack Snyder’s two super hero films gives him some credibility back.
