THR got the scoop on this news, revealing that the Saturday Night Live alum, who has a very good relationship with Warner Bros. right now is taking over the role of Fletch from Chevy Chase in a brand new movie that would potentially reboot the franchise:
Fletch Won is an origin story, described as a gritty action comedy with heart and more tonally in line with McDonald’s novels than the Chase movies….The producers and the studio will now seek a director to take on the project, which is hoping to exude a Beverly Hills Cop or Midnight Run vibe.
I’m not entirely sure how to feel about this. I really enjoyed the Fletch films and feel there is vitality in the property, but I can’t say I’ve ever really cared for Sudeikis. I’ve mentioned it before, but something about him doesn’t work for me. I enjoyed his performance in Horrible Bosses but that’s about the only thing I’ve liked him in.
Hopefully a solid script and story will provide a firm foundation from which Sudeikis can build upon. What do you guys think of the casting choice? Similarly, are you eager to see another Fletch movie?
