I’m not head over heels in love with Javier Bardem. Yeah, I found his role in No Country for Old Men creepy and disturbing, and he certainly did a great job as the villain, but I’ve never seen him in another role that I absolutely love. Maybe I just need to see more of his movies to fill in the gap (I’ve never seen his much praised film Biutiful, for one).
As I previously stated though, his performance in his career so far is as the bad guy in No Country for Old Men. So is his involvement in Bond 23 as the villain enough to get me excited? Hell yeah, it is.
During an interview with Nightline on ABC, Bardem was asked about his supposed role in Bond 23. The actor said the following:
I am very excited, my parents took me to watch the movies, and I saw all of them, and to play that is going to be fun. They chose me to play this man, but I cannot give you many details.
Pretty exciting, huh? So far, I’m really liking the way Bond 23 is shaking up. With Sam Mendes at the helm, I certainly hope we can expect something better than what we got with Quantum of Solace. And if Javier Bardem can deliver 1/3 of the performance he gave as Anton Chigurgh in No Country,..we’re in for something special indeed.
Bond 23 opens November 2012.
