For the most part, I’ve really enjoyed the newest X-Men films. First Class is still my all time favorite with Days of Future Past feeling like a solid follow-up that tied both versions together nicely. Apocalypse was a bit of a stumble, but overall, I love the First Class crew and have been looking forward to seeing their latest (and last) adventure together.
Dark Phoenix, which pulls from the much celebrated X-Men comic arc of the same name, was supposed to debut earlier this year. Post-production problems and reshoot schedules, however, have pushed the film into next year…So we’ve been waiting some time for this trailer. Let’s check it out:
I…Just don’t know what to think. This isn’t a bad trailer, and I’m genuinely excited to see all of the cast back together (seeing McAvoy’s Professor X and Fassbender’s Magneto play off one another is always great), but I think I was expecting more. For a film that should have been released this year and will serve as the end of Fox’s era of X-films, I wanted to be blown away. Instead, I feel just a little bit intrigued. What did you think?
In Dark Phoenix, the X-Men face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite – not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.
Dark Phoenix arrives in theaters on February 14, 2019.
