I have to say, I really like this pick. Say what you will about Marvel and their storytelling, but they know how to cast a damn fine villain, and adding Josh Brolin to play the big baddie Thanos is genius. Latino Review posted the scoop earlier, and the report was later confirmed by Variety, that Brolin will be lending his voice over to Thanos in this year’s Guardians of the Galaxy (though it’s not clear if he might also partake in some motion capture for it as well).
Variety’s report goes further, saying that Brolin will reprise the role later on in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. It doesn’t say how large a role he’ll have, but my guess is it won’t be huge. Things seem to be leading up to Thanos being a significant string puller throughout the Marvel films before he’s revealed as the ultimate villain in Avengers 3.
I’m interested to see how much he’ll be in Guardians of the Galaxy (set to hit on August 1, 2014), but if they’ve cast an actor to play him, it’s obviously got to be bigger than his brief cameo at the end of Avengers. Guess, we’ll just have to wait and find out, but in the mean time, what do you guys think about Brolin playing a Marvel villain?
