About a year ago we reported about Joss Whedon joining the DCEU for a new solo Batgirl film that was on the way. Little did we know that he was not just interested in Batgirl, but he would be brought on to help finish Justice League after ZackSnyder had to step away.
JusticeLeague had mixed reactions when it finally hit the theaters, whether that was Joss’ fault or not is up in the air as fans have called for a nonexistent SnyderCut of the film, we all figured that Joss was at home hard at work on his next DCEU project, Batgirl. However, unfortunately he may have been working on it, it doesn’t look like he will be finishing.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Joss said,
“Batgirl is such an exciting project, and Warners/DC such collaborative and supportive partners, that it took me months to realize I really didn’t have a story. I’m grateful to Geoff and Toby and everyone who was so welcoming when I arrived, and so understanding when I… uh, is there a sexier word for ‘failed’?”
Unfortunate to say the least, as rumors have said that Batgirl was next to get rushed into production as soon as Shazam finished. Now there’s no telling what will happen with the DCEU slate as it continues to spiral out of control. Joss’ Superhero future is unpredictable at this point. Maybe he sticks around for another project in the DCEU, maybe he gets on with his own projects. Only time will sale.
