The movie that earned about 1 billion dollars worldwide ($404+ million domestic), Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, is getting a sequel! While that’s not necessarily new news, nor have they announced any details, Dwayne Johnson, the star of the rebooted franchise, took to Instagram to share the release date with the world, and it looks like they’ll have a familiar foe, once again…
Officially planting our JUMANJI flag. On DECEMBER 13th, 2019 – the game is not over. I hold JUMANJI very close to my heart and I’m beyond grateful you made our movie into the global juggernaut ($1BILLION+) it became. Can’t wait for you to see what our new adventure & new characters have in store as Christmas comes early. And once again, I get to slap @kevinhart4real’s lip’s into next week. The world is happy. #FearTheDrums #TheGameIsNotOver #JUMANJI DECEMBER 13th, 2019
From The Rock’s lips (thumbs?) to our ears, Jumanji 2 (unofficial title), is set to release on December 13, 2019.
What makes this release date so interesting are two things. First, it looks like Sony Pictures is planning on trying to re-create the successes of the first one, as Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle released around the same time, last December. And why not? Last year’s ridiculous numbers proved that Sony could succeed during what normally is a Star Wars-dominated month. Speaking of, that brings me to my second point, Jumanji 2 will once again go up against Star Wars, as J.J. Abram‘s Episode IX is set to release on December 20, 2019. Normally, this would be a no-no, but clearly there’s enough money to go around during the holidays for both franchises, with both earning about 2 billion combined, worldwide.
Jumanji 2 is set to have the original team of Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan return and will release on December 13, 2019!
