With exactly two weeks to go before The Force Awakens hits theaters, just about everyone connected with Lucasfilm is making the PR rounds. Kathleen Kennedy, the current head honcho at Lucasfilm, is no different, and recently spoke with the LA Times about all things Star Wars. Hidden within the larger interview (which you should certainly check out), she reveals that Gwendoline Christie’s Captain Phasma will be back:
Kennedy has big plans for Phasma and confirmed that the captain will carry on into the next movie. “She’s an important character, a baddie in the best sense of the word.”
When it comes to information, it certainly doesn’t get much more official than coming from Kennedy. JJ Abrams himself revealed that the badass looking Captain Phasma doesn’t have a lot of screen time in The Force Awakens (which many of us assumed), so for fans worried about her being a one-and-done villain, you don’t have to fear.
We already know that Luke is back (Mark Hamill has already filmed scenes for Episode VIII), along with a couple others. I’m sure after the film hits, we’ll get a better look at the returning cast. What do you guys think? Are you excited to get more Phasma in down the road?
Star Wars: Episode VIII hits theaters on May 26, 2017.
