Kingsman: The Secret Service was, hands down, one of my favorite films of 2015. I’ve probably seen it 20 times since its release and HBO debut. I’m not alone, either. Fans have loved the film so much, they’re making a sequel. Director, Matthew Vaughn spoke with Empire Magazine and revealed the title as well as the plot and some new additions to the cast!
The sequel to the first Kingsman film will be entitled Kingsman: The Golden Circle. There isn’t much to go off of but we’re assuming it’s either a weapon or an organization, of some sorts. As for the plot, Vaughn revealed that Eggsy (Taron Egerton) and the Kingsman must travel to the US to meet up with their American counterparts, Statesman, after the Kingsman HQ is destroyed by the evil villain Poppy played by Julianne Moore. Vaughn also revealed that the Statesman would feature a character named Ginger, played by Halle Berry.
Now, if you’re banking on another Church Massacre, you may be disappointed. When asked, Vaughn replied, “You try not to read what people want, but they do want another church sequence. I have no reason for another massacre to happen. But I have other sequences you’ve never seen before.”
I’m not as disappointed as other fans may be. You never want to redo something that you already perfected. There may be something similar but I’d rather he not tried too hard to force that magic. Regardless, we do have a full plate as it is. Just look at what else we’ll be getting instead.
So far, there’s a lot to like about The Golden Circle. Hopefully it proves to be just as good, if not better, than The Secret Service.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle is set to release June 16, 2017.
