The last time we saw Kurt Wagner he was teleporting around with the X-Men in X2. Now, we’ll get to see the blue mutant again in X-Men Apocalypse. Director Bryan Singer recently announced that Kodi Smit-McPhee will be playing as Nightcrawler when the movie releases May 27, 2016.
Smit-McPhee is best known for his work opposite Viggo Mortensen in the post-apocalyptic dramatic thriller, The Road. More recently, though, he played Alexander in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
It’s apparent that, in his young career, he’s no stranger to big budget pictures. Whether or not he can pull of Nightcrawler, remains to be seen. However, it does bring to mind the awkward question that Fox continues to avoid. Historically, it’s already been established in the comics and cartoons that Nightcrawler’s mother is Mystique, currently played by Jennifer Lawrence. With Fox continuing to stick with the past generations of X-Men, they may be ignoring the subject, much like they did in Days of Future Past with Magneto and Quicksilver.
X-Men: Apocalypse is set to shoot sometime this summer and to be released in theaters May 27, 2016.
