Dreamworks Animation has sure been knocking them out of the park lately. For the longest time, they were considered the poor man’s Pixar and could never quite compare. However, I look at Kung Fu Panda (the first one) and see that as the turning point. Now with How to Train Your Dragon being considered by many critics to be one of the best animated films ever (up with or even surpassing Toy Story 3) they seem to be on a roll.
All that being said, I’m really looking forward to The Kaboom of Doom. I know a sequel film might ruin the roll they’ve been on, but there are plenty of stories that can be told in the Kung Fu Panda universe. I really enjoyed the first one, and think a second film can pull off the same magic.
The trailer doesn’t really show you that much (giving absolutely nothing away of the plot), and ends with an epic ‘Kung Fu staring contest’. It’s a goofy gag, but like I said, Cars 2 gave us almost nothing…so I’ll take it and be happy for it.
This sequel hits theaters May 26th 2011.
