Lara Croft Reboot Casts An Oscar Winner to Play the Titular Character

Today, the studios in charge of rebooting the beloved video game franchise, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, have tabbed none other than Alicia Vikander for the titular role, according to TheWrap.

It’s been a whirlwind of a career for the 27 year old, Vikander.  She has starred in such movies as Ex MachinaThe Man From U.N.C.L.E., and The Danish Girl.  The last of which she won an Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. 

Now, she gets to add Tomb Raider to her young, but illustrious career.

The decision will come as a surprise to some, as rumors started to swirl around Star Wars The Force AwakensDaisy Ridley being the frontrunner for the part.  Despite this, Vikander is a great selection to play Lara Croft.  Anyone who has seen her films know that she is witty, charming, sexy, and strong.  All traits that one needs to portray the Tomb Raider.

Lara Croft is Directed by Norwegian filmmaker Roar Uthaug.
