Middle-earth Comes to Life in the Trailer for Tolkien

We know how the one ring was forged.  We know how Gondor was liberated.  We know how two brave hobbits saved the entire race of men.  But do you know how the story came to be?

Fox Searchlight Pictures‘ upcoming film, Tolkien, will follow renowned author John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, or J.R.R. Tolkien, (Nicholas Hoult) through his incredible life as an orphan to the time he spent in World War I, with each moment shaping one of the greatest stories ever told.

TOLKIEN explores the formative years of the orphaned author as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a group of fellow outcasts at school. This takes him into the outbreak of World War I, which threatens to tear the “fellowship” apart. All of these experiences would inspire Tolkien to write his famous Middle-Earth novels.

Tolkien, directed by Dome Karukoski, releases in theaters May 10, 2019, starring Nicholas Hoult, Lily Collins, Colm Meaney, Anthony Boyle, Patrick Gibson, Tom Glynn-Carney, Craig Roberts, Laura Donnelly, Genevieve O’Reilly, Pam Ferris and Derek Jacobi.
