I love Tim Burton, and so many of his films impacted me when I was younger, but even I recognize that his last few years have been …rocky. Alice in Wonderland may have made oodles of money, but I don’t think anyone considers it a gem in his career. Big Eyes took him away from his comfort zone, but couldn’t pull in audiences. Generally speaking, his last handful of movies have been fairly divisive among fans and critics.
This first trailer for Miss Peregrine’s, however, looks like a return to the more whimsical (with hints of darkness) Tim Burton that we all know and love.
While the book has garnered plenty of attention, I have to admit I haven’t had a chance to get around to it. As such, I’m watching this trailer knowing almost nothing of the story, but like what I see. There’s a distinct X-Men vibe to the whole thing, like what would happen if Professor X were a woman running a school in the 1920s. Hopefully the final product can deliver on the fun trailer we’ve been offered.
