A New The Matrix Trilogy is Possibly in the Works at Warner Bros.

As always, it’s important to take such rumors with a grain of salt.  The report is coming from Latino-Review, which has a decent track record with big scoops of this nature.  Their sources are reporting that with most of the Wachowski siblings’ recent films having been major bombs at the box office, Warner Bros. is keen to put the duo to work on a property that would make money: The Matrix.

We’ve been told that the Wachowski’s have already started the writing process with early treatments and outlines already turned into the studio. No word if they will want to direct but my money says “Claro que Si!”.

I know what you’re thinking, we’ve heard all this before, and it turned out to be nothing.  While that’s true, there’s a good chance that this time around, Warner Bros. is serious.  After all, the filmmakers themselves are in need of another hit.  While I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all of their films (especially Cloud Atlas), they’ve failed to connect with audiences.  A return to the Matrix world would be a good way to get another blockbuster.

Secondly, other studios are gearing up to take advantage of older franchises and making them new once more.  With Jurassic Park coming back, The Terminator getting a reboot, and more Star Wars on the horizon, it would make sense that WB is keen to revitalize one of their biggest selling licenses.

There’s no official word on this, and likely won’t be until the Wachowski’s are done on Jupiter Ascending, but I for one am willing to believe it.  More than that, I’m excited.  I’m one of the few who enjoyed all (yes ALL) of The Matrix films and would be curious to see what else they could do.

What do you guys think?  Is the rumor true or false?  If it turns out to be true, are you ready for more Matrix
