Back in 2014 it was announced that The Rock would be playing the DC Anti-Hero Black Adam. At the time little was known about when the project would start moving, but we did believe he would be going up against Shazam! As time went on, we found out that Black Adam would not be appearing in the Shazam! film. In fact there is a possibility that the two films are completely separate. Recently we learned of casting of Shazam, his child form alter ego Billy Batson, as well as a possible villain for the film. Now, we finally get word on when we might see The Rock’s Black Adam. And word is, it is not in Shazam!
Now this is still strictly rumor, so take this with giant a grain of salt. According to The Wrap, Warner Bros is looking at Suicide Squad 2 as the film to introduce Black Adam as the main antagonist of the film. Apparently, according to the report, there are two separate sources confirming “the current plan for the sequel is for the members of Suicide Squad to be tasked with tracking down a weapon of mass destruction. That weapon? Black Adam himself.”
If we look at everything leading up to now, this shouldn’t be much of a stretch to see the Shazam nemesis show up to take on the Squad. The Rock was quoted talking to Fandango early summer saying:
“We have a really cool surprise for Black Adam that I can’t reveal, in terms of where we will see Black Adam being introduced.”
Add that to the fact that we have multiple sources confirming this rumor, and it seems to make a lot of sense. Not to mention, one of the biggest knocks on Suicide Squad was the villain. How do you fix that? Same way you fix any problem, add The Rock.
Gavin O’Connor is set to write and could possibly direct Suicide Squad 2, which will bring back Margot Robbie and Will Smith. The production is eyeing a fall 2018 start. Problem their lies The Rock’s busy schedule. Jungle Cruise, the Fast & Furious spinoff, Ballers, and you never know what he will need to show up at Wrestlemania to layeth the smacketh down on some candy ass, will The Rock have time to fit in Suicide Squad 2? Well the report notes the part won’t take much time to shoot, so couple that with the fact that The Rock either never sleeps, or has multiple clones, then it should work out.
Currently neither Suicide Squad 2, nor the alleged Black Adam solo film, have release dates.
