Jackman hanging up his Claws after Days of Future Past?

Playing Wolverine has made Hugh Jackman into a major film star over the past 13 years. While Jackman has always been positive about the character, the 44 year old actor acknowledges that the calendar is catching up with him and it may be time to retire the claws. Jackman told Digital Spy, “I know there’s an expiry date on doing this.”

In a recent interview with MTV news regarding X-Men: Days of Future Past, Jackman said, “It may be the last. By the way, it didn’t hit me until three weeks before the end of shooting ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past, because we promoted The Wolverine and I came back on set with three weeks to go, and that’s when I went, ‘Well, who knows? Maybe there’s no more Wolverine. Maybe this is it. Who knows?’ Maybe. So I really made the most of those last few weeks. I enjoyed every time I put the claws on.

When asked how he’d feel about seeing another actor replacing him as Wolverine, Jackman responded, “Wolverine is like Bond. These roles are greater than I am as an actor. It will always live on and outlive me. It’ll be passed on, and I’ll be in the old people’s home, showing my old movies and telling anyone who will listen that I was much better than whoever is playing it now.

Jackman says, “I won’t say never, because I’m still loving it. But there would have to be a pretty compelling reason.”
