Jake Gyllenhaal is reported to be in talks to play the failed actor who specialized in visual effects and was an accomplished stuntperson in hopes that taking out a hero would propel him to stardom. As Beck, he made his first appearance in Amazing Spiderman #2 in 1963 and again as Mysterio one year later in Amazing Spider-Man #13 and at one point was a member of the Sinister Six a group of villains that consisted of Doctor Octopus, Sandman, Kraven the Hunter, Electro, & Vulture (the most recent movie villain spidey has faced) all banded together to take out Spiderman.

This also isn’t Gyllenhaal’s first chance at a role in a Spider-Man film. After Tobey Maguire hurt his back filming another movie, Gyllenhaal was briefly considered for the role of Peter Parker in Spider-Man 2 if Maguire could not reprise the role. Gyllenhaal will be joined by Micheal Keaton who will reprise his role of Adrian Toomes, The Vulture.

Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel is set for July 5, 2019.
