Elisabeth Olsen has distinguished herself as the talented Olsen sister, getting critical acclaim for her role in Martha Marcy May Marlene, and will soon be moving onto more mainstream fare in the upcoming Godzilla reboot. If the rumors are true, she’ll soon be part of the cast for the much-anticipated Avengers sequel, taking on the role of the Scarlet Witch.
Avengers Director Joss Whedon announced a few months ago that the Marvel Comics super-siblings Pietro and Wanda Maximoff—AKA Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch—would appear in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, despite their X-Men affiliations. (Although Quicksilver will be appearing in the X-Men films, too.) Originally, Saoirse Ronan was the top contender for the Scarlet Witch role but she decided to pass on the project. That left the door open and Olsen may just be the one to step through it. Aaron Taylor-Johnson has already been cast as big brother Quicksilver.
Seeing as Wanda Maximoff is supposed to be vaguely Spanish-European, Olsen would need to adopt an accent for the role. Olsen is a talented young actress and she could very well pull off the role, accent and all.
Marvel’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron begins filming in 2014 and is scheduled for a 2015 release date. As for Elisabeth Olsen, even if she doesn’t accept the role, you can still see her in her other upcoming projects Oldboy, Therese, and Godzilla.
