Rumor Control: Star Wars Episode VII Now Targeting a December 2015 Release?

Hmmm…This is what comes of not releasing any official information on a film that people are desperate to know more about.  We get tons of rumors and conflicting information.  During Disney’s big D23 Expo, Alan Horn (Disney’s Chairman) assured fans the Episode VII would be releasing in Summer of 2015, putting aside earlier rumors that the film wouldn’t make that time frame.  Today’s Star Wars rumor seems to backtrack on that!

Badass Digest is hearing from their sources that Disney is now looking at a mid-December (15th) release date for the film in order to give everyone more time to get it completed.  This would be pretty momentus in that all of the previous films have debuted in May, and would be breaking tradition.

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing however.  Production is moving quickly on this film and frankly I’d rather see a great film than a rushed one.  Pushing the date back would give Abrams a little more breathing room, not to mention take the film out of the already cluttered Summer season.  With 2015 shaping up to be one of the biggest Summers ever with Pirates 5, Independence Day 2, Batman/Superman, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Jurassic Park 4, and plenty more, it’s probably not a bad idea to take Star Wars out of that equation.

Honestly, I’m not sure about the rumor itself.  While pushing the film back doesn’t hurt my feelings (though I’m already hyped!), the fact that Alan Horn seemed so adamant to assure fans of the Summer timetable makes me wonder about this rumor.  As careful as Disney’s been about releasing information on the film, I don’t see them making that sort of statement if they weren’t confident in it.  This rumor harkens back to earlier scuttlebut about the film’s release, so it’s nothing new, but until we hear something official, I’m fairly skeptical.  Guess we’ll have to wait and see!
