If you’re eager to see slightly different heroes pop up on the big screen in DC’s cinematic universe, then you’re in luck. The Tracking Board is reporting that Greg Berlanti, the executive producer and primary force behind Arrow and The Flash, is developing a Booster Gold/Blue Beetle movie for WB. There was already a Booster Gold Easter egg hidden in Man of Steel, which led many fans to believe/hope that the hero would eventually have a role to play in the DCEU. Now it sounds like it’s going to happen, though from the report, it’ll be something dramatically different from the other DC films currently in the works…a comedy:
“Booster Gold and Blue Beetle, two DC Comics superheros that have long been rumored to appear in either an upcoming film or TV show, are now being groomed for a team-up feature from Warner Bros. Sources exclusive to The Tracking Board can now confirm that Greg Berlanti, the force behind the successful DC comics TV series Arrow and The Flash, will be heavily involved with this one, set to direct and executive produce. Sarah Schechter will also executive produce, while Julia Spiro will oversee for the studio.
In a massively different approach from Warner’s current slate, the film will team the two heroes together in what’s being pitched as a superhero buddy cop movie. Comedy is the emphasis here, which is a stark contrast to the other titles in DC’s Cinematic Universe, breaking the mold of the uber serious and grounded Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”
Frankly speaking, a comedy seems to be the way to go with these two particular heroes. They’re both known for their snarky attitudes and witty comebacks and often comedic adventures. The two frequently team up in the comics, so putting them together in a movie makes some sense. I’m just wondering which version of the Blue Beetle they plan on going with? The source of his “powers” have varied in the comics from an alien life form, to advanced technology (not unlike Iron Man, etc) with a regular guy inside.
If this film comes to pass, it’ll be interesting to see which direction they go. Even without the comedy aspect, you’ve got a time-traveler and a potential alien suit to deal with…so it’ll be a bit different. More than anything, I’m happy to hear that DC/WB are looking into ways to change up their own formula, and not deliver the same kind of movies throughout their cinematic endeavors.
What do you guys think? Are you ready to see these two on the big screen? Which version of the Beetle would you like to see? Sound off with your thoughts in the comments below!
