Fans are hungry for anything relating to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and have been since the film was announced a couple years ago. Now that filming has wrapped on the production people are more eager than ever. If you’ve been following me on Twitter, you’ve likely seen me talk about the first teaser trailer for the film being done and roughly the things I’ve heard related to it’s timing.
This is where things get tricky. Myself and many others have heard a few different time frames for the release of the trailer, many of which were centered on landing sometime BEFORE Thanksgiving. The film world is ever changing, however, especially where marketing and timelines are concerned. If you had asked me this morning, I would have confidently told you that the trailer would be hitting within a week, at the most. Things shifted.
You may have seen reports already, that originated from Star Wars 7 News, claiming that The Force Awakens trailer will be attached to The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. This has been backed up by a few different pieces of information, and generally would make a lot of sense. When the news first hit, I was skeptical because it didn’t match up with things I’d heard from sources this morning. Well, not too long after my sources started switching gears and it looks like minds were changed and The Hobbit is the likely release window for the teaser trailer.
The final Hobbit movie lands on December 19th, it’s almost exactly one year away from The Force Awakens official release, so it would make some sense for the teaser to land at that point. I’ve also heard rumblings that it could be coming with the mid-season finale of Agents of SHIELD, which would be on December 9th. So either way, it looks like December is when we’ll be seeing the first trailer for the new Star Wars movie.
While it’s a little later than originally expected, it’s still only a few weeks away! Technically speaking all of this is rumor right now. I’ve reached out to Disney/Lucasfilm for comment on the rumor, but so far haven’t heard back from them. Even when I do, I doubt they’ll give us anything concrete. From what I’ve heard (most recently) and from other reports others are giving, December looks like the time-frame. But who knows?! Perhaps they’ll surprise us. Either way, we’ll update you guys as soon as we know anything.
