Netflix has made a big $450 Million deal to buy up not one, but two, sequels to Rian Johnson’s Knives Out.
Well, this is a little unexpected. While we knew Rian Johnson was already working on a sequel to Knives Out, many of us expected it to head to Lionsgate as the previous movie did. Apparently, Netflix has other plans!
The streaming studio has made a $450 million deal for the rights to Knives Out 2 and Knives Out 3. The deal would keep Rian Johnson on board to helm the trilogy with Daniel Craig on board to reprise the Private Detective role of Benoit Blanc.
It’s unexpected, to be sure, but perhaps shouldn’t be too surprising. Netflix has a lot of streaming competition these days with tons of original content out there. That they’re willing to throw down the big bucks for more Rian Johnson flicks makes it clear they intend to keep up.
No word on when we might see the sequel arrive, but as far as I know, filming is expected to kick off at some point this year (of course things can always change).
