New Details and Images for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Released

USA Today debuted some all new images from Dawn of the Planet of the Apes this morning and I’ve been drooling over them ever since.  The VFX work on this film looks like nothing that’s ever been done before, taking CGI to a stage of realism in film that’s not been achieved.  Rise of the Planet of the Apes pushed the boundaries with mo-cap technology, and now, they’ve gone even further with Dawn.  It’s hard to not be impressed by these images.

As for the content behind them, it’s obivous that the humans are very much intimidated by the apes, and the apes look confident and in charge.  There’s no timidity present here.  They know they’re top dogs in the world now, and it’s obvious in the body language, they aren’t willing to go back to the way things were.

USA’s article also reveals that the film is really focused on families, for both humans and apes, and how they struggle to survive in this new world order.:

Caesar not only has a wife, but also an infant son and a teenage son,” says Serkis. “This film centers around the notion of family — the survival of the family and what lengths you would go to to protect them when life is extremely hard and tough.

That’s an intriguing concept and follows on from the central theme of the previous film, which was all about finding “home” and your place in the world.  I’m happy to hear the film is far deeper than the action and set pieces that are sure to ensue, and wants to tackle issues in a broader scope (as the original Planet of the Apes films did in the 60s).

All I know is that the wait for this movie is getting even harder, which isn’t helped by the fact that we’re still waiting on a new trailer for the movie!  Hopefully that’ll drop soon, but in the meantime enjoy the first trailer for the film and it’s awesomeness:

A growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by Caesar is threatened by a band of human survivors of the devastating virus unleashed a decade earlier. They reach a fragile peace, but it proves short-lived, as both sides are brought to the brink of a war that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes will hit theaters on July 11, 2014
