This morning brings a slew of new images from Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, revealing our first look at classic characters, while teasing new details.
As promised yesterday, when we got our first image of Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides, Vanity Fair has released a BUNCH more images from the upcoming Sci-Fi film. On top of looking, generally amazing, with some stunning details, these give us our first looks at Duke Leto (Oscar Isaac), Stilgar (Javier Bardem), Chani (Zendaya), the Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), Gurney Halleck (Josh Brolin), and Duncan Idaho (Jason Momoa):
The new images/article also reveal that there’s been a bit of a change to one of the novel’s key characters, Liet Kynes. The role is being played by Sharon Duncan-Brewster, and she looks pretty incredible in the role based on the image provided. While I’m sure some will take issue with the swap, they can absolutely get over it.
I encourage you to check out Vanity Fair’s full article which delivers some more quotes from the cast/crew, while also confirming previous reports that Dune is set up as TWO films. We’ll only see the first half of the novel this December (much like how WB did their most recent IT adaptation). In fact, director Denis Villeneuve was adamant about this point before taking on the job: “I would not agree to make this adaptation of the book with one single movie. The world is too complex. It’s a world that takes its power in details.”
Couple that with the upcoming TV series for HBO Max, Dune: The Sisterhood, and it looks like fans of the books are in for a lot of good stuff. Now! Let’s just hope we can get a trailer in the very near future.
Dune is slated to hit theaters on December 18, 2020.
