I wasn’t too thrilled by the first trailer for Edge of Tomorrow. Something about it just didn’t appeal to me, and I found myself struggling to be excited. Today’s new trailer, however, has finally caught my attention by paying more attention to the sci-fi setting of the film and the action sequences. Obviously the big story point here is that Tom Cruise’s character keeps coming back to life and has to relive the same moments over and over again, just like in Groundhog Day. Instead of figuring out deep aspects of life, however, Tom Cruise has to become a better soldier to stop the bad guys (who look pretty cool by the way).
I’m digging this trailer a lot more than I thought I would, and suddenly I want to see more. I’m hoping the plot goes way further than the gimmick it’s starting with, but at the very least, the film looks damn entertaining. What do you think of the trailer? Are you pumped to see the film? The epic action of “Edge of Tomorrow” unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world.
Major William Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop—forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again…and again.
But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.
Edge of Tomorrow will hit theaters on June 6, 2014.
