With just a little over a month away, Paramount Pictures is in the thick of their marketing campaign for their anime live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell. Part of that campaign will consist of a :30 second slot during Super Bowl LI. While most trailers would be relatively tame, in terms of surprises, Paramount decided to go in a different direction and reveal a pretty interesting twist.
SPOILER ALERT: THE FOLLOWING SUPER BOWL SPOT CONTAINS A TWIST THAT THOSE UNFAMILIAR WITH GHOST IN THE SHELL MAY NOT WANT TO SEE.
For the most part, the spot shows us some of the scenes we’ve already seen while displaying some of The Major’s abilities. The end, though, seems like a bit of a hail mary. Why show a twist like that in a trailer? It seems as if Paramount is using this as a means to garner interest and boost sales. Personally, I’m not a fan of big reveals in trailers. To me, they seem to take away from the theatrical experience.
Then again, maybe we’re in store for even bigger twists and turns when Ghost in the Shell arrives in theaters March 31, 2017!
What do you think of the Super Bowl spot?
