Disney has released a brand new trailer for their upcoming live-action adaptation of Mulan, showing off more impressive action and story tweaks.
I enjoyed the first trailer for the upcoming Mulan movie, and the elements of classic Kung Fu movies it brought. So imagine my delight when this morning’s new trailer doubles down on those elements!
There’s a lot to love about this trailer and, personally speaking, I’m digging the changes they’re making to the story. Frankly, the shot-for-shot live-action remakes Disney has done with many of their reboots haven’t thrilled me. The ones I found myself enjoying most were those that took the story in new directions, or at least presented them in drastically different ways.
As a fan of old-school martial arts action movies, I’m 100% on board with everything I’m seeing here. From the action itself to the way it’s shot, this new take on Mulan could be something truly special.
When the Emperor of China issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army to defend the country from Northern invaders, Hua Mulan, the eldest daughter of an honored warrior, steps in to take the place of her ailing father. Masquerading as a man, Hua Jun, she is tested every step of the way and must harness her inner-strength and embrace her true potential. It is an epic journey that will transform her into an honored warrior and earn her the respect of a grateful nation…and a proud father.
Mulan hits theaters on March 27, 2020.
