Yeah, this trailer uses one of the easiest marketing techniques in the book; the pure, unadulterated power of animal cuteness. But you know what? It totally works. I found myself laughing and smiling as Puss in Boots chased a pen light, or as he loudly slurped up his milk. I don’t know if that says something about my simple sense of humor, but I was enjoying myself during these moments. What I didn’t like, however, was the Shrek-ian aspects of the trailer.
Humpty Dumpty as a character didn’t make me laugh, and I couldn’t even tell that he was Zack Galifanakis. Also distracting was Salma Hayek, who plays Puss’ love interest in the film. I don’t know if Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides burned me off of love interests with sexy Latino accents, or if her character is just plain annoying. Whatever the case, I actually think this film can be a fun action movie romp if they do it the right way. I just don’t want Puss in Boots to become Shrek 4.
Official Plot Description:
