At this point in the summer, I can honestly say I’m looking forward to 30 Minutes or Less more than almost anything else this year. I’m a sucker for action comedies, and I’ve been sold on this one since the first trailer premiered a couple months back. This one is basically that, but with a longer running time. Because of this longer time, we get to meet the two “bad guys” of the film, played by Nick Swardson and Danny McBride. Not surprisingly, they’re hilarious. But what is surprising about the trailer is Jesse Eisenberg, who seems to be playing a much different character than he ever has before. A pothead pizza guy who enjoys watching his friend have sexual acts performed on him? Yeah, this isn’t Mark Zuckerberg of The Social Network. And honestly, I’m excited to see this different side of Eisenberg. Hell, I’m excited to see this film period.
Official Plot Synopsis:
In the action-comedy 30 Minutes or Less, Nick (Jesse Eisenberg) is a small town pizza delivery guy whose mundane life collides with the big plans of two wanna-be criminal masterminds (Danny McBride and Nick Swardson). The volatile duo kidnaps Nick and forces him to rob a bank. With mere hours to pull off the impossible task, Nick enlists the help of his ex-best friend, Chet (Aziz Ansari). As the clock ticks, the two must deal with the police, hired assassins, flamethrowers, and their own tumultuous relationship.
30 Minutes or Less opens August 12, 2011.
