The dark comic series Spawn is going to make a comeback…for reals this time. Since the original film flopped in 1997, the property has gone dormant in media outside of the comics, but its creator, Todd McFarlane has remained adamant about his goal to bring another film to the big screen that’s more in line with the source material.
During SDCC, McFarlane revealed he’s partnered with Blumhouse Productions (Get Out, Split, and many other solid horror/thriller movies) to finally make it happen. Apparently he’ll be writing the script with intentions to direct it as well. Frankly, I’m not entirely sure how to feel about that last part, but we’ll just have to wait and see how it turns out. At the very least, something official is happening now beyond ideal talk and theoretical plans.
Collider has a pretty good interivew with McFarlane where he talks a bit more about his plans for the new movie, so be sure to check it out for more information.
