News Bits: Hunger Games, The Hobbit, Avengers, Akira, Titanic, Friday, Underworld, and More!

Catching Fire movie

* The sequel to The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, already has a release date set for 2013.  Yet with the post-production schedule, Gary Ross (director) doesn’t have the time to devote to writing that script.  So instead it looks like the studio is looking at Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire) to take over the writing duties along with Suzanne Collins.

* Universal has announced plans to make a Woody Woodpecker movie along with Illumination Entertainment.

Avengers Banner

Avengers Banner

* Yahoo Movies and Moviefone debuted these all new character banners for The Avengers.  Expect marking to start really ramping up soon, and be sure to click on the images for the large versions.

Titanic 3D

* The poster for the 3D release of Titanic has been revealed.

Young Adult poster

* While we’re on the subject of posters, this new (very bland looking) poster for Young Adult has been released.

*In a move that’s already upset fanboys all over the world…it’s been confirmed that Kristen Stewart is in talks to portray Kei in the upcoming Akira movie adaptation.

Muppet Twilight posters

* We posted this a couple days ago on our Twitter, but in case you missed it, Disney sent us these awesome parody poster where the Muppets take on Twilight.

* Andy Serkis recently talked about filming The Hobbit, and told fans about when we’ll be seeing the first trailer for An Unexpected Journey:

“There will be a trailer fairly soon, actually. Around Christmas time, I believe.”

Lady and the Tramp blu-ray

* Disney has announced that the Vault will open to release Lady and the Tramp and Cinderella on Blu-Ray.  Lady and the Tramp is set to release on Feb 7, 2012, while Cinderella has been given a vague Fall 2012 release window.

Tangled Ever After

* This news is sure to excite at least one writer on TMP way too much…Disney has revealed that the short film Tangled Ever After (made by the same directors of Tangled) will shown in front of Beauty and the Beast 3D, which opens in theaters January 13, 2012.

Underworld: Awakening

* A new poster for Underworld: Awakening was released earlier this week.

* Some minor casting things: Michael K. Williams has dropped out of Django Unchained, but now has a role in Snitch along with the Rock.  Amy Adams has been offered a role in Trouble with the Curve with Clint Eastwood.

Friday

* Ice Cube is in talks for another Friday sequel…but don’t frown just yet.  Word has it that Chris Tucker may actually come back for this one.

* David Yates (director of the last few Harry Potters) has now been attached to direct a Doctor Who movie adaptation.  He’s quick to say that’s a ways off, and it looks like he may direct Imitation Game for Warner Bros. before tackling the Doctor.

* Warner Bros. is giving people the chance to win an incredible A Christmas Story vacation trip.  To enter you need to recreate a scene from the beloved holiday movie A Christmas Story.  For more information be sure to check out the contest page right HERE, and if you need inspiration I’ve posted a sample entry above for you.
