Overlord Trailer: Zombies Infect Bad Robot’s Secretive WWII Film

These days, I’m down for just about anything Bad Robot puts out there and they always seem to bring the goods (though there are a couple misfires). As such, I’ve been eager to learn more about Overlord. The film was revealed a few months ago, but as is normally the case, everyone involved were keeping the lid tight on the “mystery box,” with JJ Abrams only noting that it was “batshit crazy.” This morning brings us our first trailer for the film, and it does indeed appear batshit crazy in the best way:

There’s a LOT to love in this trailer. Gorgeous looking visuals, a historical setting, and some crazy looking zombie action. I’m a sucker for zombie movies; pair that with a WWII setting and I’m practically in the theater already. It’s a solid trailer that shows some interesting twists on the zombie idea, while teasing more monsters to come. In short, I love it.

While the first reports on Overlord pegged it as yet another entry into the Cloverfield franchise, during their CinemaCon presentation in April, JJ Abrams denied it had any connections to Cloverfield. While he could be covering for the mystery box and keeping it secret, I’m inclined to believe him this time around. Not to mention in the same comment he did mention a more “direct” sequel for Cloverfield was in the works as well.

Guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Regardless, what we have now is a great trailer and an interesting idea that I can’t wait to see more from. Overlord is directed by Julius Avery with a screenplay from Billy Ray and Mark L. Smith.

On the eve of D-Day, paratroopers drop behind enemy lines to carry out a crucial mission for the invasion. As they approach their target, they soon begin to realize there’s more going on in the Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation.

Overlord hits theaters on November 9, 2018.
