Earlier this month we reported on John Boyega joining the cast of the much anticipated sequel to the 2013 relative hit film Pacific Rim. Now we finally know when we are getting the rematch between the most awesome robots on the planet, and the invading monstrous aliens. And that rematch is set for Feb 23 2018. A date that they will currently hold without any competition.
Fans were worried after the less than stellar domestic performance, weather we would actually get a sequel to the sci-fi film. However new life was breathed into the project after a very lucrative box office performance in China, and the Chinese based company Wanda acquired Legendary, and the rights to Pacific Rim.
The first film was directed by Guillermo del Toro, and stared Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, and Rinko Kikuchi. This go around we know del Toro will star on in a producer role, but it will be Dare Devil and Spartacus show runner Steven S. DeKnight stepping in the helm the project.
Deadpool has proved that February can be a profitable month for film, and now with a good word of mouth on the first Pacific Rim, and a good over seas box office, looks like Pacific Rim 2 looks to capitalize before the summer hits.
