Okay so was I a fan of the original Green Hornet, nah. I mean the biggest thing for me was that it helped the career of Bruce Lee. And even as a comic reader the times the character has appeared have never been long lasting. What I can admire is that he still has a following of fans that know of the character and that alone shows there’s potential. Well the rights have apparently lapsed and have now been picked up by Paramount and Chernin Entertainment who are looking to make an edgier Green Hornet. Deadline is reporting that Gavin O’Connor (Warrior, The Accountant) looks to reinvigorate the almost 80 year old property.
“I’ve been wanting to make this movie — and create this franchise — since I’ve wanted to make movies,” O’Connor said. “As a kid, when most of my friends were into Superman and Batman, there was only one superhero who held my interest — The Green Hornet. I always thought he was the baddest badass because he had no superpowers. The Green Hornet was a human superhero. And he didn’t wear a clown costume. And he was a criminal — in the eyes of the law — and in the eyes of the criminal world. So all this felt real to me. Imagine climbing to the top of the Himalayas, or Mount Everest, or K2 over and over again and no one ever knew? You can never tell anybody. That’s the life of Britt and Kato. What they do, they can never say. They don’t take credit for anything.”
I admire this man’s passion for this property. He wants to go for a more shadow operative with a military background. Also set to pen the movie is video game writer Sean O’Keefe (Liar,Pursuit Force) whom O’Connor has said he will be working with closely on the script. I’ve always liked heroes like this, The Spirit, The Shadow, Zorro, etc. They never needed more that some bravery and a cool hat to go fight crime. And there is certainly room for these more street level heroes as has been proven with some of the things Marvel has been doing. No details as of yet but with this kind of heart behind it I have high hopes for a Green Hornet reboot.

All they needed was a trench coat and a fedora, and some gadgets, and a cool car, and a sidekick. I gotta get me some of those. Follow me on Twitter and Instagram @JasonTheX
