Pokemon Come to Life in the First Trailer for Detective Pikachu

We live in amazing times, as Pokemon fans.  Nintendo has a brand new Pokemon adventure releasing on Switch this week, hunting for Pokemon is an every day occurance with Pokemon Go!, and now we have a live action Pokemon movie, where Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, alongside The Pokemon Company, have crafted a movie where Pokemon look and act realistic in the new film Detective Pikachu.

Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) stars as Detective Pikachu, partnering up with Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), in a fantastic first trailer that, if you’re like us, you may not be prepared for.

The story begins when ace detective Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City—a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world—they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.

When Warner Bros. first announced plans to film a live-action Detective Pikachu film, most of the Pokemon community was understandably hesitant.  How could you make the one thing literally all of us have wanted for nearly 2 decades a reality in a film?  The Detective Pikachu trailer answers that question and quells literally every fear, as WB, Legendary, and TPC, have developed an uber-detailed world that revolves around Pokemon.  It’s so mind-boggling, I watched the opening shot more times than I’d care to admit.  It’s even halted all production in the Cinelinx office, with all of us drooling over this trailer and trying to fathom a world where Pokemon exist.  In other words, Detective Pikachu has broken society and won the day.

Detective Pikachu, directed by Rob Letterman, hits theaters May 10, 2019, starring Ryan Reynolds, Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton, and Ken Watanabe!
